Password Manager

Password Managers – Which one is best for you?

With so many different password managers on the market, it’s hard to determine which is more reliable and best for your business. We’re here to help! Now, primarily using 1Password, this is the best business option. However, your needs may differ, so consider the following when choosing a password app.

What are password managers?

Password Managers are secure apps that store your passwords for a range of different websites and can also generate secure passwords for you. With digital security enhancements, it is likely that the majority of websites you use will ask for login details or some form of identification to access saved data. Now, could your brain hold even 100 different passwords? I doubt it! That’s why password managers are enabled to store these passwords for you and be readily available for you to use.

Best Password Managers out there:

–          1 Password

–          LastPass

Both password managers have their strengths and weaknesses; for example, 1Password is a user-friendly model with extra security measures for their app version. It is available on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and IOS. They hold a rating of 4.8 stars and rank highly on the league table regarding security and encryption. LastPass is an excellent option for beginners and those on a budget; however, there are some concerns regarding the app’s protection. They have a 3.8 ranking and are also available across Windows, MacOS, Android and IOS.

Encryption Comparison

1Password and LastPass both make use of 256-bit AES encryption. Making both apps highly secure from any potential breaches. However, 1Password adds an extra safeguard with a Secret Key, which is required alongside your typical password; without both, you cannot access your password vault. If you are saving important webpage passwords that provide access to sensitive information, 1Password might be a better option for you!

Multi-Factor Authentication

Both 1Password and LastPass offer multi-factor authentication options, ranging from authentication apps to biometrics. Overall, LastPass allows for more variety and choice of authentication options, including smart cards and physical authentication.

Security Breaches – A look back

LastPass has suffered from two data breaches in 2022, while 1 Password has never been breached.

In August 2022, LastPass confirmed a data breach that fortunately didn’t compromise any of the users’ data and that the attacker exfiltrated portions of internal data. Then, in November 2022, another breach was confirmed, in which the attacker successfully gained access to certain customer data elements.

In contrast, 1Password has never suffered a data breach, instantly restoring your trust in their application.

1Password and LastPass both offer standard password manager features, such as password generators, sharing options, password importing, vaults, and password recovery.

However, each has some unique features as well.

For example, 1Password offers data breach monitoring (Watchtower) and travel mode, while LastPass allows you to generate one-time passwords.
